Mountain biking isn’t just for adrenaline junkies—it’s an accessible and rewarding sport for anyone looking to explore the outdoors, improve fitness, and enjoy some of Australia’s most stunning landscapes. Whether you're a beginner just starting out or an experienced rider, mountain biking has something for everyone. Let’s take a look at the key benefits of mountain biking, and why it’s worth investing in the right gear from your local cycling shop to make the most of your experience.

1. Full-Body Workout

Mountain biking is an excellent way to work out your entire body. It's not just your legs that get a workout—your core, arms, and shoulders also play a significant role in helping you maintain balance and control as you navigate challenging trails. Whether you're riding on winding paths or climbing steep hills, the varied terrain works multiple muscle groups, making it a far more dynamic workout than road cycling.

2. Cardiovascular Health

One of the most important benefits of mountain biking is its ability to improve cardiovascular health. Regular riding boosts your heart rate and helps improve lung capacity, which can lead to better endurance and overall fitness. In Australia, with its vast mountain ranges and extensive network of trails, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to get your heart pumping while enjoying breathtaking views.

3. Mental Health Boost

Mountain biking isn’t just about physical fitness—it’s also great for your mental health. Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The focus required to navigate challenging trails also helps clear your mind, keeping you in the moment and giving you a mental break from the everyday grind. And there's nothing like the post-tough trail rush of endorphins!

4. Connection with Nature

Australia is home to some of the most beautiful and diverse natural environments in the world, and mountain biking gives you the chance to immerse yourself in them. Whether you're riding through the rugged outback, dense forests, or coastal trails, mountain biking allows you to explore areas that aren’t always accessible by foot or car. It encourages a closer bond with nature and is an environmentally responsible way to see more of Australia's breathtaking landscapes.

Why You Should Invest in Mountain Biking: The Benefits You'll Discover on the Trail

5. Adventure and Fun

Let’s face it—mountain biking is just plain fun. The sense of adventure that comes from exploring new trails, overcoming obstacles, and testing your limits makes every ride exciting. Australia has an abundance of world-class trails for all skill levels, from beginner-friendly paths to extreme downhill courses. You'll be prepared to take on anything the trails throw at you if you have the appropriate bike and equipment from your neighbourhood bike shop.

6. Social Aspect

Mountain biking is a great way to meet like-minded people who share a love for the outdoors and adventure. Whether you’re joining group rides, participating in events, or simply riding with mates, mountain biking fosters a strong sense of community. Throughout Australia, many bike shops also hold events and group rides, giving you the chance to meet new people and hone your skills in a friendly setting.

7. Improves Balance and Coordination

Navigating tricky trails, steep descents, and technical sections of a mountain bike path requires great balance and coordination. These skills improve over time and transfer to other aspects of your life, including better posture and enhanced reflexes. Riding on varied terrain forces you to constantly adapt, making you a more well-rounded and agile cyclist.

8. It's Customisable

One of the best parts about mountain biking is the ability to customise your experience. Whether you’re interested in cross-country, downhill, or all-mountain riding, there’s a type of bike and gear to suit your needs. Investing in high-quality equipment from a trusted cycling shop ensures your bike is tailored to your riding style, helping you get the most out of your adventures. Plus, with a variety of accessories and upgrades available, you can continuously improve your ride.

Mountain biking offers a wide range of physical, mental, and social benefits, making it one of the most rewarding outdoor activities you can engage in. If you’re ready to hit the trails, be sure to invest in quality gear from your local cycling shop to maximise your experience. With so many stunning trails across Australia, there’s no better time to start reaping the benefits of mountain biking - so get out there and start exploring!

Winter glove

These gloves work in the wet and the dry and down to very cold temperatures. Also wash and wear really well, come up like new each time.

Winter gloves

So warm and toasty. The size was perfect. I haven't worn them in the rain but hoping they are waterproof as advertised.

Decent, but far from great

Let's start with the good - the fabric is an excellent blend of stretch merino that feels dense and warm without overheating, the conductive fingertips for forefinger and thumb actually work (unlike a lot of other brands), and the palm grip is great both on and off the bike.

Now the bad - the glove pattern/cut leaves too much fabric around the lower palm/wrist area so you never get a nice form-fit. This extends to the wrist which is too large and consequently allows air to get in (not what you want from a winter cycling gloves). Conversely, the fingers are quite tight, where you need to individually work each of the glove fingers on. Lastly, the piece of grip rubber placed at the thumb/forefinger webbing is totally unnecessary and in fact only makes for an uncomfortable grip on the handles as it gets pushed into the base of your thumb. Definitely seems like a band-aid solution and needs more thought.

Overall, I'm happy with these gloves despite the design flaws. Price is great for merino full finger cycling gloves and they seem built to last. If you can grab them on sale, go for it.

Great jacket!

Great ventilation and removable arms makes it very versatile.

Halo caps

Good quality product and awesome customer service
